Choosing a nude resort for a clothing-optional Arizona vacation ought to be easy. Well, perhaps it's the searing summer heat or maybe it's just the thought of all those cactuses everywhere, but there's a limited range of top quality nude resorts and other clothing optional vacation accommodations.

The Mira Vista Resort, near Tucson
The Mira Vista dates back to the 1850s when it was a stagecoach stop on the Butterfield Line which ran 2700 miles from St Louis to San Francisco. The original stone bathtub is still there – though these days there's a pool, spa, fitness centre, tennis and 30 acres of secluded gardens with desert plants, trees and saguaro cactus. Day visitors are welcome, if you want to check first whether a nude resort is for you.

The Shangri La Ranch, near Phoenix
Only 45 minutes from Phoenix's Sky Harbor International Airport is this family-friendly clothing-optional resort. Facilities include spa, sauna, pool, volleyball, water volleyball, tennis, basketball, horseshoes and hiking trails. There's also a clubhouse, children's playground and the Bare Buns cafe. There's a full program of social activities, and a range of accommodation options including a 5-bedroom lodge, cabins and full RV facilities. Day visits are possible too.

El Dorado Hot Springs, Tonopah
Forty miles to the west of Phoenix are these old hot bathing springs. A huge subterranean hot spring has become the focus of a rustic hot water spa, in typical western fashion, where visitors can enjoy private nude bathing in the various springs in the area. It's an oasis in the Arizona desert, where bathing in mineral springs has been enjoyed for centuries. This is not a huge, modern nude resort, rather a more intimate place where the health-giving benefits of soaking in the springs is promoted. Various accommodation options are available at the El Dorado, including the Motel California and the Old Tonopah Post Office. This must be the only post office in the world with its own soaking tub and natural mineral water shower.
