Times are tough, travel is down and people are stressed. The Westin Kierland in Scottsdale is hoping to help guests and local residents with a variety of new promotions.

The Westin Kierland Resort, a four-star property in North Scottsdale is facing the economic recession head on with several programs designed to get people’s minds off the economic woes of the day.

Hump Day Relaxation

Guests of the Westin Kierland often take advantage of the Agave Spa to relieve tension through a variety of relaxing treatments, but the spa also wanted to reach out to stressed-out locals. The Be Well Wednesday event, held the second Wednesday of each month, does just that. The event is complimentary and includes a 30 percent discount on any service, a 20 percent discount on all retail items, nutrition and fitness consultations, acupuncture consultations, free mini treatments, wellness walks with fitness instructors and special spa gifts. Residents who participate in any Be Well event will receive upgrades on spa services for their birthday and notification of special discounts and promotions throughout the year.

Recreation is Relaxation

The Kierland Golf Club tees up its Monday Choose Up program where golfers of all abilities can join in for nine holes of fun. The program creates pairings chosen randomly based on handicap and the number of players. Entry fee is $45 that includes nine holes of golf, cart fee and one beverage. Call 480-624-1600 to sign up. Participation is limited to 36 golfers and handicap must be disclosed when reserving.

Escape to the Movies

The movies are a perfect escape vehicle for troubled times and throughout the year the Westin Kierland crafts innovative events around a new blockbuster release. For example, the hotel recently hosted a girlfriend getaway evening in conjunction with the film, “Confessions of a Shopaholic.” The evening started with a welcome reception featuring a “shoppertini” drink followed by a VIP shopping experience at Kierland Commons (located next door to the hotel). A three-course dinner was held at the resort’s signature restaurant, Deseo before the group departed to the theater to watch the movie. All participants received a goody bag filled with body products and special discount shopping offers. The hotel plans to run events in conjunction with the release of the new Harry Potter movie and several other popular movie releases this year.

Time Away from the Kids

In addition to the financial strains many are feeling, the stress of constant care giving can make the situation worse. For local residents, the Westin Kierland offers complimentary childcare in its Kids Club for parents who book a romantic dinner, a round of golf, or spa treatments.
